Are you ready and willing to take the Polar Plunge for a really good cause this December?
Maybe the oddest Irish tradition is taking a Christmastime dip into our icy sea. If you insist on freezing in frigid waters this December, well, you may as well be freezing for a reason.
The Polar Plunge season is back again for 2015; last year its events were over subscribed with dare devils and do gooders, so this year they’ve added three new locations.
Organised by Special Olympics Ireland and the Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee, the Polar Plunge dares you to jump into freezing cold water, hence the name, in support of Special Olympics Ireland. Not only do you get the chance to refresh (!), but there’s plenty of festive cheer at the plunge locations.
The Dublin event takes place at the Forty Foot in Sandycove on December 12th. Participants register for €15 and commit to raising an additional €35. There are eight different plunge locations across the country.
