BLOCK T is moving out of Smithfield, having found a new home in Basin View in Dublin 8. Support the guys through their new crowd-funding campaign.

Having first opened its doors back in 2010 in Smithfield, BLOCK T is excited to announce that they have found a new home in Basin View in Dublin 8. This new venue will house shared creative work environments, as well as open plan educational and cultural facilities for the local community.

A venture like this, as we all well know, does not come cheap, and the guys need your support to make it happen. It will also ensure that BLOCK T survives and thrives into the future. Here is a real opportunity for us all to act, to intervene and to support something quite special in Dublin.

The case for promoting and supporting the arts in Ireland has never been stronger. Sadly, with an economic upturn, the first to suffer are the likes of grassroots arts organisations, as rents soar and funding is redirected elsewhere.

According to Laura Garbataviciute Dovn, Managing Director of BLOCK T, “Over the six years we have been in Smithfield, we have seen over 150,000 visitors to Smithfield Square, we have supported and facilitated over 800 creatives and organisations, produced hundreds of public projects and events onsite and offsite, and educated and engaged with thousands of people in our community. We have seen ourselves acting as an incubator and generator of jobs in the creative industries, while also offering infrastructures and subsidies for our community, young creative talent and entrepreneurs, allowing them to focus on what they do best.”

The target for this new BLOCK T crowd-funding drive on gofundme.com is €15,000, which will cover some of the costs involved in setting up the new facility for the public. Every form of support, be it big or small, is an investment in the creative community, and will also permit BLOCK T to continue its work of providing a community space for creativity, sharing, learning and expression.
