Fingal Film Festival has announced its schedule for 2016 which kicks off on Friday 30th September and runs till Sunday 2nd October 2016.

With the final films selected and a host of great workshops lined up, the festival team are ready for action less than four weeks before the big event.

Irish film “Cardboard Gangsters” by Mark O’Connor opens the festival and celebrates its Dublin premiere at the festival’s Opening Night on the 30th Sept 2016. Doors open at 8pm for a wine reception. Tickets are limited and are available for purchase online.

The film follows John Connors (Love/Hate) in the lead role as the head of a young group of wannabe gangsters attempting to gain control of the drug trade in the Dublin suburb of Darndale; chasing a glorified lifestyle of money, power and sex. Kierston Wareing and Dublin rapper Paul Alwright (Lethal Dialect) also star.

Other features include South by award winning director Gerard Walsh (A Day like Today) which tells a tale of a young man struggle to deal with his Fathers recent passing and his search for his Mother, the only family he has left.

The documentary line-up includes “Atlantic” by Risteard O’Domhnaill (The Pipe), “Murphy’s Laws”, a Canadian documentary by Megan Murphy and Xuban Intxausti ‘s “In Dialogue”, a Basque/Irish production made in Belfast as part of the Europa Transit framework.

Also included in the schedule is a diverse selection of exemplary shorts, animations and student films from Ireland and across the globe. Paying tribute to the 1916 Easter Rising Centenary, there also will be a series of revolutionary themed films screened at the festival including the Ken Loach’s classic “The Wind That Shakes the Barley”. As part of this screening are some Irish related short films from some talented emerging film makers competing for the “Gaeilge is Fearr” award (Irish Language Award).

Commenting on the line-up announcement Dave Byrne, Creative Director of Fingal Film Festival, said “We are thrilled about the selection of films we have for our Irish and international audience this year. There are some spectacular films lined up”.

This year’s workshop series include an animation workshop from Stephen Fagan, Founder and Creative Director of Treehouse Republic. This half-day workshop takes place on Friday September 30th and will cover the topics of pre-production, production and post-production, with a focus on SFX and music.

Supervising Sound Editor Niall Brady from Screen Scene leads the Sound Design workshop on Saturday October 1st, with a case study of Lenny Abrahamson’s “Room”. This session will also feature guest speaker Steve Fanagan from Ardmore Sound.
