The annual Flora Women’s Mini-Marathon takes place this June Bank Holiday Monday, once again raising funds for many local charities.
The hugely popular race starts at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd June, covering a distance of 10k around Dublin. Entry is now open to take part and the closing date is April 18th or beforehand, should the maximum number of entries be reached.
Applicants for this women only race have the choice to enter under five categories; walker, jogger, fast jogger, runner or elite runner and have the opportunity to raise money for their chosen charity by being sponsored for the race.
This mini-marathon is the biggest all-female event of its kind in the world and since it began in 1983, almost 780,000 women have entered the event. Many charities have benefited greatly from the event and last year, an estimated €12 million was raised by the women involved, bringing the total amount raised since 1983 to €137 million. It is now the biggest single day charity event in Ireland.
To help train for event, the organisers have created pages dedicated to training tips as well as diet and exercise advice. Advice includes training schedules, training trackers, expert tips and training groups that are available to join for those who don’t want to train alone. There are also recipe ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner, weekly meal plans and idea for sweet treats available on the site.
