STRUT, a pop-up jazz club from Improvised Music Company is coming to the Abbey Theatre this November 18th to 21st.
For four days on the Peacock Stage, STRUT will highlight some of the best contemporary domestic and international talent, bringing the vibes and excitement of a small club show, where the band is close to the audience and the energy is palpable.
Kicking off STRUT on Wednesday 18th November at 7pm will be the funky Danish organ trio, Ibrahim Electric (pictured above), who first visited Ireland in 2008 for the 12 Points Festival. The guys present a glorious mix of distorted sounds that you won’t find anywhere else.
On Thursday 19th November at 7pm, London-based Blue-Eyed Hawk will take to the stage and bring a wide open improv sensibility to their melodic and richly textured original material. Blue-Eyed Hawk creates eclectic music that traverses many different styles.
Also on Thursday 19th at 9pm is 3G feat. Gerhard Ornig. Collectively this quartet, formed specifically for STRUT, will showcase one of the most invigorating live experiences jazz has to offer.
Friday 20th November kicks off at 7pm with Irish jazz guitar legend Louis Stewart and flautist Brian Dunning, accompanied by special guest bassist Dan Bodwell.
Later that night at 9pm, Italian jazz duo, pianist Gabriele Mirabassi and Francesco Turisi on clarinet, explore the lyrical Italian jazz tradition.
On Saturday 21st at 9pm Australian trio The Necks will present their unique music that consists of fragments and momentary glimpses heard in other music that you wish would last longer. Together for 25 years, this band are set to enthral audiences.
Additional acts will be announced shortly so keep an eye on both the Abbey and Improvised Music Company websites. Tickets for the various events can be booked online via the individual event pages on the Abbey Theatre website.
