On Sunday 15th June, The Big Gay Sing is coming to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, for one night only, in aid of Marriage Equality.
This spectacular all-singing event will be hosted by Panti and promises to be a night of fabulous singing you’ll never forget.
The Big Gay Sing began in New York in 2009 and was created by Jeff Lettiere and Charlie Beale, the Artistic Director of New York City Gay Men Chorus. Since then it continues to be a huge success and has sold out every year in both New York and London.
This special Dublin performance will feature Glória, Dublin’s Lesbian and Gay Choir, performing alongside over 250 singers from New York Gay Men’s Chorus as well as some surprise acts. The show will feature timeless show tunes and hits from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, as well as some of the best hits of today including songs by Daft Punk and Rihanna.
Audience participation is a key part of this event; guests are encouraged to dress up for a club night out in the era of their choice and lyrics for all the songs will be projected above on a big screen.
Panti, aka Rory O’Neill, is a drag queen and gay rights activist who has recently been in the media a lot after his now famous appearance on The Saturday Night Show. O’Neill was threatened with legal action and gave a speech in the Abbey Theatre in response. This speech received the support of many famous faces, including Madonna, Stephen Fry and Graham Norton. Panti is considered to be Dublin’s foremost drag queen and is the owner of ‘PantiBar’ in Dublin.
Marriage Equality is an organisation whose goal is to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Ireland through the extension of civil marriage rights to same-sex couples.
The organisation works at educating the public, mobilising support for legislation that will allow same-sex couples to marry and establish legal recognition of children in LGBT families, as well as monitoring and encouraging legal actions at national and European levels which support granting same-sex couples the equality of status in Ireland that a number of other countries enjoy.
The Big Gay Sing takes place at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Sunday 15th June at 8pm and tickets priced from €20 are available online. For more information about the event, please visit the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre website.
