Prepare to be dazzled as the multi-award winning Swan Lake by Matthew Bourne comes to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre this February.
Winner of over 30 international theatre awards, Bourne’s modern spectacle is the longest running ballet in Broadway and the West End, with five outstanding tours in the UK as well as Europe, America, Japan and Australia.
Bourne’s Swan Lake was first performed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London in 1995 and is based on the Tchaikovsky’s ballet of the same name Bourne kept the original music and the basic outline of the plot but his groundbreaking re-interpretation is perhaps best known for his choice to cast men as the swans which had been traditionally played by females.
The ballet tells the story of a young prince, his mother and his yearning for freedom that is represented by a swan. Bourne’s production, with set and costume design by Lez Brotherston and lighting design by Rick Fisher, combines humour, dance and style to create a modern and memorable show.
Swan Lake opens at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Tuesday February 25th and runs until Saturday March 1st. Evening performances are at 7.30pm with one matinee performance on Thursday February 27th at 2.30pm.
Tickets are priced between €19 and €55 and there are group deals available for groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be booked through Ticketmaster or by calling the box office on +353 (1) 677 7999.
