Ballyturk, the new play by Enda Walsh and starring Cillian Murphy, Mikel Murfi and Stephen Rea, is coming to the Olympia this August.

The production makes its world premiere at the Galway Arts Festival in July and promises to be one of the theatrical highlights of the year. It reunites the creative team behind Enda Walsh’s Misterman; an internationally acclaimed play that also starred Cillian Murphy in a sensational solo performance.

Ballyturk will mark Murphy’s return to the stage, where he will star alongside Enda Walsh’s long-time collaborator Mikel Murfi, as well as the acclaimed film and theatre director, Stephen Rea.

The play has been described as ambitious, profound and tender, with moments of gut-wrenchingly comedy mixed with moments of aching sadness, as the lives of two men unravel over the space of ninety minutes.

It is Enda Walsh’s first new play in four years and since he won a Tony award for Once, the Broadway musical.

Cillian Murphy has starred in many Hollywood blockbusters including the Batman movies, Inception and The Wind That Shakes the Barley. He has also received wide acclaim for his recent role in the BBC hit television programmePeaky Blinders.

Mikel Murfi is currently on tour with his one-man play The Man in the Woman’s Shoes, recently nominated for Best New Play at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards, while Stephen Rea, the Oscar, Golden Globe and Tony nominee, featured in the latest production of Sam Shepard’s play A Particle of Dread (Oedipus Variations) as part of the Derry City of Culture 2013.

Ballyturk will run at the Olympia from Thursday 7th to Saturday 23rd August (please note that there are no performances on Sundays). Tickets are priced from €27.50 and may be reserved online. Evening performances are at 8pm and matinee shows are at 3pm.
