The eighth edition of Darkness Into Light, the annual 5km walk/run in aid of Pieta House, takes place this May.

Darkness Into Light, supported by Electric Ireland, is definitely one of the highlights of the Pieta House calendar. The success of the event has grown exponentially over its eight year history, with close to an incredible 110,000 participants last year.

Starting at 4.15am this year, and crossing the line just as dawn is breaking, Darkness Into Light will be taking place in more than 100 venues, both across Ireland and internationally.

Darkness Into Light is the flagship fundraising and awareness event for Pieta House, and without your support, they could not have helped so many people in suicidal distress and engaging in self-harm over the last nine years.

You can help Pieta House continue its great work through raising much needed funds. One way is by setting up a Darkness Into Light fundraising page on JustGiving. It takes less than a minute to do so, and you can then share it online with your friends and family via email and social media. Another way is through good old donations, and you can now also donate online.

Pieta House has nearly 180 staff and they have welcomed in excess of 22,000 people struggling in the shadows into the nine centres up and down the country since they first opened their doors a decade ago.

Every week, 10 people die by suicide in Ireland, and it costs roughly €1,000 to successfully bring one person through a full suite of therapy sessions and into the light. This is where your fundraising and donations make a difference.
