The award-winning musical, The Bodyguard, is coming to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin this month for a 14 show run.

The Bodyguard is currently wowing audiences in London and coming to Dublin direct from its West End run for two weeks only. Producers Michael Harrison and David Ian are delighted to announce that three-time Brit nominee and X Factor winner, Alexandra Burke, will star in the leading role of ‘Rachel Marron’ in the show’s run here. Burke will perform in the evening performances, and at the matinee performances, Zoe Birkett, will play the lead role.

Based on the smash-hit film released in 1992, starring the late Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, the musical is a love story about a former secret agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge but neither expect to fall in love!

The Bodyguard features a host of Whitney Houston’s greatest hits, including I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Run to You, I Have Nothing – and one of the greatest love songs of all time, I Will Always Love You.

Alexandra Burke rose to fame after winning the fifth series of The X Factor and her debut single, Hallelujah, sold over one million copies in the UK, a first for a British female soloist. Zoe Birkett is best known as the highest placing female contestant in ITV’s Pop Idol in 2012. Since then, she has appeared in a variety of West End productions.

The Bodyguard runs from 22nd July to 1st August at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Evening performances are at 7.30pm and matinee performances, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, begin at 2.30pm. Ticket prices range from €20 – €60, and may be reserved online
