The Great Pink Run in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland is back this August in the Phoenix Park, kindly sponsored by Avonmore Slimline Milk.
The Great Pink Run, organized by Breast Cancer Ireland, takes place on Saturday, 29th August in the Phoenix Park, featuring the 10k Challenge with Sonia O’Sullivan, and a 5k Family Fun Run. The event, one of the main annual fundraisers for Breast Cancer Ireland, is open to all, and entrants are more than welcome to run, jog, or walk their away around the course.
As we all know, the prevalence of cancer in society has been on the increase in recent years, and the race to find a cure becomes more pressing. For Breast Cancer Ireland, as with all other organizations offering similar services, investment in research is critical in advancing hopes of finding a cure for this disease. Its aim is to transform breast cancer from often being a fatal disease to a treatable long term illness.
You can help them speed up discovery times to affect a more positive outcome for patients through your fundraising efforts. By setting up a JustGiving page, which you can easily share with your online community, you’ll be in a position to reach more people, thus raising more funds for Breast Cancer Ireland.
Monies raised from the Great Pink Run help enormously in research efforts, not least by supporting the specialist nurses in each of the eight designated cancer centres, and the country’s first National Breast Cancer Bio & Patient Profiling Resource. According to Breast Cancer Ireland, this facility will enable clinicians and scientists to avail of much larger volumes of samples from which to conduct their research, thereby speeding up discovery and ultimately affecting more positive treatment outcomes for patients.
And for those wondering how effective these fundraising efforts have been over the years, Breast Cancer Ireland has been able to purchase state of the art equipment to enable the formulation of personalised treatment plans for each patient diagnosed. This new innovative genetic analysis determines each patients personal situation and then provides valuable information as to their most appropriate course of treatment. The illness strikes people in different ways, hence tailoring individual treatments is vital in ensuring positive outcomes.
The Great Pink Run takes place in the Phoenix Park on Saturday, 29th August. The 10km race starts at 10am, and the 5km Family Fun Run starts at 10:40am. Your race pack with your race number with timing chip and t-shirt (if purchased online) must be collected at the Great Pink Run Expo in the RDS Serpentine Hall, Ballsbridge on Thursday 27th (open 5pm to 9pm) or Friday 28th August 2015 (open 12.30pm to 8pm).
Investment in research is critical and an ongoing requirement. Please continue to support events such as this – and help Breast Cancer Ireland in its Race for a Cure.
