The inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Dublin triathlon takes place this August in and around the city.

Dublin’s reputation as a tourist destination is well known, recognised the world-over for its culture, entertainment, stunning coastal setting and legendary hospitality. You can now add another accolade to the honour roll — host city for an IRONMAN 70.3 event, joining with more than 70 other cities worldwide.

IRONMAN events in Mallorca, Klagenfurt, Frankfurt, and Copenhagen have attracted large numbers of athletes from within Europe, and beyond. The event on Dublin will bring in thousands of athletes along with their support teams, friends and family, ensuring a mini economic boom for the city.

IRONMAN 70.3 Dublin will take place on Sunday, 9th August, and will consist of:
– 1.2-mile swim in the Irish Sea south of Dublin City,
– 56-mile bike course through the stunning countryside surrounding Dublin,
– 13.1 run in the heart of the city with a finish in Merrion Square.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Dublin triathlon will have a $15,000 USD professional prize purse and will be a P-500 race. There will also be 30 qualifying slots available for the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship from the event.

And depending on how the triathlon goes this year, the organizers say that there may even be the possibility of adding a full distance IRONMAN triathlon next year.
