The global brand that is Electric Run hits Dublin later this month and guarantees to get raving runners out hitting the pavements of the Capital.

If you think that you might be over doing it a little bit with the upcoming St. Patrick’s festivities, the three-day weekend, and the almost obligatory shamrock drowning, then how about a Saturday night jog? It’s not as dull as it sounds. The Electric Run involves running (walking, skipping and dancing are also permitted) around 5K of glowing neon lands and features.

Electric Run started out in the US, and its popularity inspired the organisers to bring the concept to Europe. The aim of the event is to have fun and get active – it’s not competitive and it’s not timed.

The hosts are promising lakes and rivers in alien hues, tunnels of light, laser beams, neon saguaro cacti, psychedelic cliffs and buildings lit so brightly they can be seen from space – but who’s checking. Leave your iPod at home because they are supplying the music which culminates in a rave at the finish line. A run and a rave – it’s certainly novel.

Electric Run comes to Dublin 22 March 2014
What to wear? Participants are asked to get in the psychadelic spirit in club gear. Choose bright, sparkly, illuminous then add a smear of glow paint and remember your disco runners. Glow sticks, shutter shades, an LED bracelet and an event t-shirt are included in the entry fee. Well it beats the banana and muesli bar you usually get at the end of a run.

The event is family friendly so children are welcome, and the under sevens are free. The aim of Electric Run is to create an event that is fun through music and light in a healthy and happy environment. It turns out rhythm is a runner.

Electric Run, in association with Elverys Sports is on Saturday, 22nd March, at 7.30 pm at The RDS in Ballsbridge. The official charity partner of the Dublin event is the Irish Cancer Society. Entry for individuals is €43.00. Teams of four or more can enter for €40.00 per person. Kids under seven are free.
