GAZE International LGBT Film Festival is set to take place this August Bank Holiday weekend at the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield.
The 2015 Gaze International LGBT Film Festival runs from Thursday 30th July to Monday 3rd August and has been the country’s biggest LGBT gathering outside of Dublin Pride since its establishment in 1992. It is Ireland’s largest LGBT film event and attendees come from across the world, with at least 9,000 people expected to attend this year.
The aim of the festival is to seek out entertaining and educational LGBT cinema which attendees may not have had the opportunity to view anywhere else. A series of panel discussions will also take place throughout the event.
Some highlights from the programme include a special opening night drinks reception, which takes place at the Festival Hub on Thursday 30th July at 7pm before the Opening Night Gala Screening of Out to Win (8pm) which profiles the lives, struggles and triumphs of the trailblazing International LBGT Athletes.
As well as presenting a fantastic shorts programme, the festival will also host two World Premieres of Irish LBGT Feature Films, Fading Away (Monday at 6.30pm) and The Participants (Friday at 6.30pm).
A panel discussion on LBGT visibility in sport takes place at the Festival Hub on Saturday 1st August at 2.15pm and ‘In With the New Out’, presenting a collection of the best and brightest of LGBT web series content, takes place on Saturday at 2.30pm.
The festival is committed to presenting the best in Irish made LBGT short film and documentaries and on Sunday 2nd August at 2pm, there will be new works from filmmakers Eoin Maher, Brian Dean, Eoin Heaney and Shannon Purcell, as well as work by festival alumni, Cara Holmes and Anna Rodgers.
LGBT film from Ireland will be the official focus of the 2015 Iris Prize Festival with the official launch of the Iris Prize for 2015 taking place at the Festival Hub at 6pm on Sunday, 2nd August.
