The Docklands Summer Festival is back this May at Grand Canal Dock, with plenty of entertainment both on and off the water.
The Docklands Summer Festival takes place on Saturday 21st, and Sunday, 22nd May, in the superb surroundings of Grand Canal Dock. Organised by Waterways Ireland and The Docklands Business Forum, the festival is truly a unique celebration, drawing huge crowds each year.
As always, there is an impressive array of activities planned over the course of the weekend, including plenty of water based activities for the public to partake in and enjoy, including kayaking, paddle boarding, barge rides, as well as the opportunity for both young and old to try their hand at a range of interesting water sports. Check out the wake boarding demonstrations that will be going on throughout the weekend, with some of the country’s finest exponents of the sport taking to the water.
If you’d prefer to stay dry, you could always sponsor a duck in the Docklands Rubber Duck Race, with proceeds going to support a great cause, The Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. Ducks cost €5 each, and the race takes place at 4:30pm on the Saturday and Sunday. Or you might like to channel your inner Rory McIlroy with a spot of water golf off the jetty. Believe us, this is great fun!
Not to be outdone by the water, land activities will also play a integral part to the festival, with music, face painting taking place all across the dock, keeping the crowds entertained.
There will also be a funfair on Grand Canal Dock, and Art and Crafts workshops in the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre. Booking is advisable but not essential (01 677 7510).
However, if food is your thing, then the Dockland’s Summer Festival is guaranteed to have something for you. This year ALA Markets will have a huge range of quality fresh and exciting food for food lovers to delight in.
98FM will also be on hand, broadcasting live throughout the festival with plenty of gifts and prizes to give away.
The Dublin Dockland’s Summer Festival promises a hive of activity across the Docklands, with entertainment and family fun guaranteed, so don’t miss out!
