New local venues like the Dolmen Theatre in Cornelscourt are making the arts more accessible to us all.

Open since January of this year, the Dolmen Theatre in Cabinteely is a new theatre dedicated to providing audiences with theatre experiences of high professional quality and an impressive line-up of productions.

Situated above the Magic Carpet pub in Cornelscourt, the theatre has staged many successful productions in its first few months, including works by one of Ireland’s foremost contemporary novelists, Jennifer Johnston.

Founders Ger Gallagher and Anne Raleigh have had very positive feedback from local residents and there are plenty more exciting plays to come during the rest of the year.

John Murphy’s Elvis is My Daddy is playing there until 29th August. Billed as ‘a good old fashioned night out with a good old fashioned legend!’, the play is produced by Happybag Productions and stars Eilish O’Carroll, Clelia Murphy, and Elaine Hearty.

From the 31st of August until mid-September, the theatre will be hosting two short plays written by Jennifer Johnston and directed by Caroline FizGerald — Moonlight and Music (performed by Lise-Ann McLaughlin) and Waiting (performed by Geraldine Plunkett).
