This June Bank Holiday weekend, Ireland’s leading horticulture and food festival returns to the Phoenix Park for another year of green-fingered, tasty fun.
The festival, organised by Bord Bia, is now in its ninth year and aims to promote the high standards found within the Irish food and horticulture sectors to both a national and international audience. Running from Thursday 28th May until Monday 1st June, the festival includes show gardens, a food village and plenty of family entertainment.
Each year, the show gardens create the heart and soul of the festival. Designed by some of the country’s top garden designers, they offer visitors a taste of the latest design trends which can be recreated in anyone’s back garden. Bloom 2015 will boast over 24 gardens.
Postcard gardens have become a firm favourite with visitors to Bloom since they were introduced to the festival two years ago. These gardens offer garden clubs and societies a chance to showcase their talents to the 100,000 and more visitors attending the event.
Other garden to be enjoyed at the even include the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden, located in the Phoenix Park visitors’ centre, which is the central point of the Bloom event, as well as the Sculpture Garden, where art and sculptures created by Irish artists will be on display. This year, the garden will resemble an old boat yard that has been reclaimed and converted into a garden around an artist’s studio.
A generous selection of floral delight and plants showcased by the very best floral nurseries in Ireland will be on sale in the Floral and Nursery Marquee and the Association of Irish Floral Artists (AOIFA) will be on hand to offer advice and provide inspiration.
This year’s food market will be better than ever and include an Artisan food market, a meat and fish market, a best in season market and much more. There will be cookery demonstrations from the country’s tops chefs.
Family fun at the festival includes Fun on the Farm, Billy Bubbles, magic and Punch and Judy shows. Healthy eating advocates, The Food Dudes and ClapHandies are back again to provide a baby and toddler chill zone.
