The RTÉ Concert Orchestra is back this August with its Lunchtime Concert Series, running each Tuesday throughout August.
Following on from the lunchtime series of concerts presented by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra earlier this summer, it is now the turn of the Concert Orchestra to entertain the masses.
The Lunchtime Concert Series gets underway on Tuesday 4th, and continues each Tuesday throughout the month of August, each performance getting underway at 1:05pm at the National Concert Hall in Earlsfort Terrace.
The first lunchtime concert features Jane Hackett on violin, and will be conducted by Killian Farrell. On the programme there will be Weber’s Der Freischütz, Tchaikovsky’s Méditation and Mélodie from Souvenir d’un lieu cher, Op. 42, Robin Hood Suite by Curzon, and the hugely popular William Tell Overture by Rossini.
Next up is a concert on 11th August with flautist Miriam Kaczor, conducted by the winner of the 2015 ESB Feis Ceoil Orchestral Conducting Competition, Eugene Monteith. The performance will feature the works of Dukas (La Péri Fanfare), Ibert (Flute Concerto), Bizet (Jeux d’enfants, Op. 22 (Petite Suite)), and Offenbach (Orphée aux enfers).
The concert on Tuesday, 18th August, will feature soprano Máire Flavin and will be conducted by the maestro John Wilson. For your listening pleasure there will be Sullivan’s Overture di Ballo, Dvorák’s Song to the Moon (Rusalka), Morgen! by R. Strauss and the Swan Lake Suite by our old friend Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
The final concert of the series takes place on Tuesday, 25th August. Kinda like saying that summer is over. Back to school and all that. Pianist Gary Beecher, the Freemasons Young Musician of the Year 2014, will be accompanied by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, with John Wilson once again conducting. On the programme will be Ireland’s A London Overture, Farnon’s Lake of the Woods, Schumann’s Piano Concerto Allegro affettuoso, and to round off the afternoon, the Karelia Suite by Sibelius.
All performances will be presented by Niall Carroll for live broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm’s Classical Daytime.
Tickets cost €12 for each performance, and may be booked by calling the box office on 01 417 0000 or online. Reserved seating. No booking fees apply. As these are lunctime concerts, you may also like to avail of the Grab&Go Lunch for a mere €5 — the lunch voucher must be purchased at time of booking.
